Marvel President Confirms Doctor Strange Movie Will Have an Origin Story
For some time now, there have been persistent rumors that Marvel's Doctor Strange movie would not feature any kind of origin story, which is kind of strange given how interesting that particular part of the character's history is. But we're not the only ones who were confused by those rumors, because Marvel President Kevin Feige has just revealed that he was also baffled by them, especially seeing as he has known all along that the Doctor Strange movie will indeed have an origin story.

Here's what Feige told IGN.

Opening quote
For some reason people sometimes talked about how we're not doing an origin story, we're bored of origin stories. I think people are bored of origin stories they've seen before or origin stories that are overly familiar. Doctor Strange has one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories of any hero we have, so why wouldn't we do that? That was sort of always the plan. How you tell that origin, perhaps there are ways to twist it or play with that, but for the most part, it's a gift when the comics have something with such clarity of story and of character. That doesn't always happen in the comics, and when it does, you use it.
Closing quote

Certainly origin stories have begun to develop a bit of a bad reputation in recent years, but perhaps that's because very few of them are actually interesting, especially when it's Peter bloody Parker over and over again. But the story of Stephen Strange is not your average origin piece. A genius who becomes a revelation in the surgical world, Strange's story is admittedly riddled with the usual comic book grief and ego, but his relationship with 'The Ancient One' (played by Tilda Swinton) is one that lends itself very well to the big screen and has the potential to be absolutely fascinating. Add to this the fact that Doctor Strange is not exactly a household name, and it seems kind of ridiculous to suggest that Marvel would avoid exploring Strange's journey from surgeon to sorcerer.

In other Doctor Strange news, Mads Mikkelsen who has been strongly linked with a major role on the movie revealed, he is as in the dark as the rest of us when it comes to the movie. Mikkelsen said "so far it's been rumors, so I'm waiting on a phone call ... It would be fantastic to be a part of the Marvel family", so hopefully someone at Marvel picks up that phone soon.

Marvel's Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular hero, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Strange's nemesis, Baron Mordo, and Rachel McAdams in an undisclosed role.

Doctor Strange is released in theaters in November 2016
