Marvel Execs Look at Your Fancasting Lists, and Sometimes They Listen
Whenever a huge role for an adaptation is being cast, fans and critics alike have very strong opinions on who should play the role. Right now, one of the biggest book castings is Captain Marvel, and fans have dutifully named several frontrunners. But is anyone listening, or is this just dreamcasting? According to Marvel president Kevin Feige and producer Jeremy Latcham, Marvel is actually reading your fancasting lists, and sometimes they actually listen.

At a press event promoting the Avengers: Age of Ultron Blu-ray release (via MTV News), the executives said re: Captain Marvel:

Opening quote
Latcham: For me, we always have a clear sense of who we want to cast and who we're interested in. We have amazing casting directors - Sarah Finn, who's been with us since 'Iron Man' - but at the same time, when a fan list comes out…

Feige: We look at it!

Latcham: We read it, we go through it, we read the comments, we look at who people like. Sometimes it's really enlightening. Sometimes it's the exact same person that they've been saying over and over again that we don't think is right. It's always fun to kinda go through it and see what people are up to.
Closing quote

From reading many dream casting lists (including ours), it seems that the fans' Captain Marvel frontrunners are Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, and our top choice, Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff. But I think the lesson to be learned from these statements is that if there's an actress that's been mentioned many times, the studio has already thought about it, and passed for whatever reason. If a fan casting list is going to influence them, it will probably include actresses you wouldn't expect.

So for a few offbeat choices: Claire Danes, Firefly's Gina Torres, Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter, or Friday Night Lights's Minka Kelly (since Adrianne Palicki is already in the MCU). Are you listening, Marvel?
