Kathleen Kennedy Reveals New Star Wars Trilogy Will Focus on the Skywalker Family Saga
We've had very little to chew on when it comes to the plot of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and while we don't want to have too much spoiled for us, it is nice to get the odd tidbit of info every now and then. Thankfully, LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy has duly delivered said tidbits in the form of a new interview with Costco Connection in which she revealed what the driving focus of the new Star Wars trilogy would be, George Lucas's legacy and much more.

In a surprisingly revealing interview, Kennedy revealed arguably the largest piece of plot information about the new trilogy to date confirming that Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the other trilogy movies will continue to closely follow the Skywalker family.

Opening quote
Two types of Star Wars projects are being planned, which Kennedy has labeled "Saga" and "Anthology." "

The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga," she explains. "The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe.
Closing quote

So as with the previous two trilogies, the Skywalkers will provide the driving force of narrative, which in itself reopens an already over-explored line of questioning. Who is carrying on the Skywalker line? Who was it that Luke Skywalker was speaking to in that trailer?

It would seem that there is really only one suggestion for who the new Skywalker will be. One character has featured more prominently than almost any other in the promo images....

While Kylo Ren may feature on just about every piece of Star Wars merchandise in the world, it's Daisy Ridley's Rey that has been the real face of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If this new trilogy really is focusing on the Skywalker family, it would be a shock not to have a Skywalker featuring prominently in the build up to the movie. But maybe this is all a bit of misdirection, and maybe Kylo Ren is a Skywalker child gone bad? Wouldn't that be something? It's mysteries like this that make the Star Wars franchise great, and we can't wait to get into that theater and start it all over again.
