George Miller Denies Involvement with Man of Steel 2

Last month, Death of Superman Lives director Jon Schnepp claimed that Mad Max: Fury Road auteur George Miller would direct Man of Steel 2, taking the rumor mill by storm. But there were several reports that this might not be true, and now Miller himself has categorically denied his attachment to the film:

Opening quote
"I hope the next film I make is a very, very small film without any special effects and not many stunts," he told Digital Spy. And when asked about the Man of Steel 2 rumors specifically, he said, "There's been some of that in the mix, but I would say [the rumors] are probably not true."

This doesn't come as too much of a surprise, especially considering that Man of Steel 2 isn't even on DC's film schedule, which extends all the way to 2020, but it's still disappointing. To be fair, he seems to be admitting that he was in talks with DC, which is probably where the rumors came from. Indeed, there were further reports that the director was just generally in talks for the DCEU, and he doesn't technically deny that here, although his expressed desire to direct a movie "without any special effects" doesn't bode well for the superhero genre.

That said, Miller claimed that he would be interested in directing a superhero movie at some point:

Opening quote
"I love working in mythology, and the superhero movies are basically new incarnations of the Greek and Roman mythologies, so it's always something I'm interested in," Miller said.
Closing quote

And even if he doesn't direct a near-future DCEU movie, we can safely assume that he won't defect to Marvel, as he gave a definitive answer in the Marvel vs. DC debate:

Opening quote
"I grew up in an era that was mainly DC. So they're the pantheon for me."
