Alien: Paradise Lost Will Feature a New Crew of Travelers
It looks like there's no avoiding the Prometheus sequel, which is now called Alien: Paradise Lost, and now we have a few more specific details. We knew that we would pick up pretty much where we left off, with Elizabeth Shaw and the android David traveling to the Engineers' home planet. But as it turns out, they won't be alone, as a new group of travelers will join them on their quest to discover the origins of humanity.

When asked by Awards Campaign whether Paradise Lost would have the same aesthetic as Prometheus, Ridley Scott said,

Opening quote
"It's going to be it's own separate thing because they are going to the planet of the Engineers and they are going to see what happened there. It was a disaster. And they will be in that alien craft that takes them there, but with a new group that's incoming, a new group of travelers in the beginning of the first act."

This is an interesting revelation, although not entirely surprising. By the end of Prometheus, all that was left of the original crew was Dr. Shaw and David's disembodied head, so it makes sense that they would want to add a few characters to play with. They need expendable people to kill off, after all.

We'd never complain about more of Michael Fassbender's David, as he was by far the best part of Prometheus, but this news does mean we can speculate about a possible Alien connection. It seems unlikely that the new crew members will be explicitly connected to Alien, as Scott previously stated that the two franchise wouldn't be directly linked for a few more movies, but he also named the movie Alien: Paradise Lost, which indicates that there might be a more direct connection than he originally planned.

And speaking of those sequels, it's never guaranteed that a franchise will extend to four or five movies, but Scott is at least confident that they will get a third:

Opening quote
"There is an evolution to this one so if we can get something down I don't not see how we go [forward without a third]."
Closing quote

Alien: Paradise Lost is slated to come out in theaters on May 30, 2017.
