Neil DeGrasse Tyson Explains How on Earth Batman Could Possibly Beat Superman

Let's face it: we all know Batman v Superman isn't really a fair fight. Superman is essentially a demi-god, while Batman is just a rich guy with some expensive gadgets and a cool car. But the show must go on, and Batman and Superman need to go head-to-head next March somehow. Luckily, trusty astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson is here to tell us how Batman could ever stand a chance against the Man of Steel:

In the above video from Tech Insider, Tyson freely admits that a purely physical fight between Batman and Superman would not be well-matched:

Opening quote
"I don't think anyone who would put Superman and Batman in a cage match would possibly think Batman has a chance," Tyson said. "We all know, of course, that Batman is human and Superman is...Superman. They both have capes, but Batman can't fly and Superman flies. Superman would wipe his butt with Batman. That's basically what would happen there."

To be fair, there's also Kryptonite, but Tyson goes in a different direction, basically claiming that Batman could take advantage of the ill will society now has towards Superman after the events of Man of Steel and use public opinion to gain a moral victory over Superman:

Opening quote
"Now if Batman is ever to defeat Superman it is not in a cage, it is some other way. It is the court of public opinion, perhaps. Forces that are not how big are your muscles or how fast you can run or how high you can fly, but who do you want working for you. That's a different issue. That's a more subtle issue."
Closing quote

He's probably referring to Batman v Superman specifically, especially since he seems to be involved in the movie and would be privy to the basics of the plot, but funnily enough, this is basically the argument for Batman's victory in any "who would win in a fight, Batman or Superman" argument. While Superman clearly has the upper hand physically, Batman definitely wins in the "court of public opinion" in general.

Finally, Tyson fanned the flames of an even bigger rivalry, Marvel vs. DC:

Opening quote
"A better contest would be Iron Man and Batman. These are two humans, who by technology/science, have created ways in which they can fight crime and get rid of bad people. In that contest, my money is on Iron Man. Because he invented everything that he uses. Batman however, needs... he's got engineers in the back for him working on his exoskeleton."
Closing quote

Batman v Superman comes out on March 25, 2016.
