NYCC: New Wave of Star Wars Books Announced Including 2 New Aftermath Stories from Chuck Wendig
Star Wars fans poured through Chuck Wendig's Star Wars: Aftermath when it was released a few weeks ago, searching for clues as to what the new post-Return of the Jedi Star Wars Universe would look like. Set in the immediate 'Aftermath' of the Battle of Endor and the fall of Emperor Palpatine, Wendig's novel featured snapshots from across the galaxy showing how different planets and different people were dealing with the power vacuum left by the destruction of the second Death Star.

At New York Comic Con today, Wendig joined other Star Wars authors at the Star Wars publishing panel as they discussed what it was like to tell stories in this new, unified Star Wars universe. During the panel, Pablo Hidalgo, LucasFilm's Creative Executive revealed that fans could expect a host of new Star Wars publishing stories, which would range from e-shorts to Star Wars Insider shorts to full novels. Included in that announcement was the fact that Chuck Wendig will be writing two more Aftermath novels, Aftermath 2: Life Debt and Aftermath 3: Empire's End. It's expected that these new novels will continue to chart the time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The announcements weren't limited to Aftermath, though. It was also revealed that Claudia Gray will be writing a new novel called Star Wars: New Republic: Bloodline. Whereas Aftermath explores the moments immediately after Return of the Jedi, Gray's new novel will be set 6 years before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, skipping ahead and hopefully giving some backstory to the characters and worlds that will be core to JJ Abrams upcoming movie.

Hidalgo went on to say that the new novels from the likes of Gray and Wendig are all part of a huge new wave of Star Wars storytelling, which is scheduled to kick off in Spring of next year. Being the tease that he is, Hidalgo also said that while you wait for these new novels to come out, every Star Wars fan should reread the Journey to The Force Awakens stories after December 18th, giving us even more hope that there are some major Easter Eggs hidden away in those stories somewhere.

Other tidbits included:

- A Star Wars Tales: Aliens short story collection announced from Landry Walker. Expect that in stores on December 1st.

- Greg Rucka says he wanted his Shattered Empire Luke Skywalker to embody the peacefulness of Qui-Gon Jinn, says he'll fight anyone who says Phantom Menace was terrible.

- Rucka revealed there would be some "fun stuff" with Leia and the Queen of Naboo in Shattered Empire #3.

- An E-short called 'The Perfect Weapon' is coming in December, focusing on an alien named Bazeen who was featured in those Vanity Fair photos.
