Steve Zahn Joins War For the Planet of the Apes as New Ape
War For the Planet of the Apes just got a little bit ape-ier. Actor Steve Zahn has joined the cast to play a new ape, meaning he'll perform the same type of motion-capture acting that Andy Serkis and Toby Kebbell did so well in 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Not much is known about the new film, the third in the current Planet of the Apes reboot structure following Dawn and 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, as the story is being kept under wraps. If we had to guess the plot, we'd say a war is involved. Probably a war for the planet between apes and humans. Just a hunch.

What we do know for sure is that the new film is scheduled to open in July of 2017, and Dawn's director and screenwriter are both returning (Matt Reeves and Matt Bomback, respectively). We also know that Andy Serkis will be back as the apes' leader, Caesar, and Woody Harrelson will portray a human villain known as "The Colonel". Also cast is East Los High star Gabriel Chavarria as the other main human lead, but whether he's a hero or a villain is anyone's guess.

The reboot series has gotten good reviews so far, especially Dawn, so here's hoping that Zahn and War will continue that trend.
