Which Geeky Halloween Costumes Will Be Most Popular This Year?
Guardians of the Galaxy came out over a year ago, but it's still very much current in the zeitgeist, and Groot has stolen a place in almost every Marvel nerd's heart. Expect Groot to pop up a lot, especially with children, who will hopefully be able to imitate that adorable Baby Groot dance.
BB-8 may be a little less popular than a certain other Force Awakens addition, not because he's not beloved, but because he's a little more elaborate. But at least lazier fans can take their cue from this Wonder Con cosplayer and make an easy, relatively janky BB-8 out of cardboard.

Captain America and Iron Man have become more popular in recent years, but with Civil War fast approaching, we're guessing they'll be especially popular this year, especially when nerds are trying to decide on two-person costumes. (Same goes for Batman and Superman, but they're always so ubiquitous they weren't even worth putting on the list.)

The final Hunger Games film comes out in November, so the anticipation has never been higher, and we can expect Katniss Everdeens to turn out in droves.
Owen from Jurassic World
We expect to see lots of Owens this year for two reasons: one, Jurassic World was the highest-grossing film of the year (until Star Wars comes out, that is), and two, it's super easy. Just get the vest, and you're pretty much good to go.

Personally, I'm planning on dressing as Jessica Jones for Halloween, mostly because I already have a leather jacket and ripped jeans in my closet. But Jessica Jones hasn't come out yet, and she doesn't have a real costume, so the wildly popular Daredevil will likely win in the Marvel/Netflix department.
Agent Carter isn't as popular as most of these other properties, but she's disproportionately popular with cosplayers. Go to any comic book convention, and you'll see a veritable sea of red hats, a trend we expect to continue for Halloween this year.
This will probably be the biggest nerdy costume for women this year (although any of these can be gender-swapped, of course). Furiosa's hardcore look is irresistable, and she'll need to be represented in order to counteract all of the Immortan Joes...

We expect men and women alike to dress as Immortan Joe this year, just because he's so creepy and visually interesting. Honestly, any character from Mad Max could go on this list, but Furiosa and Immortan Joe seem to have the most distinctive appearances.
That crossguard lightsaber was the most iconic image to come out of the first Star Wars trailer, and Kylo Ren has already become indelible in popular and geek culture (which overlap more and more nowadays). The Kylo Rens will be out in full "Force" on Halloween this year (ugh, sorry).
Deadpool is always among the most popular costume, both because of the popularity of the character and his amazing get-up. But we expect there to be an explosion of Deadpools this year, as anticipation for the movie, which comes out in February, is at an all-time high.
And in the same vein, we can expect a lot of the cosplayer variant, Gwenpool, to be walking in our midst:
And this Deadpooh variant from NYCC certainly won't be popular, but we included it because it's our favorite:
