UPDATED: Batman v Superman Opening Scene and DCEU Timeline Revealed
The opening scene to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been revealed, and apparently, we've already seen most of it. According to Henry Cavill, the film takes place 18 months after the events of Man of Steel, and the first scene of the film consists of a "prologue" that shows the climax of Man of Steel from Bruce Wayne's perspective, as was seen in the Comic Con trailer:

Opening quote
"What happens there is one of Bruce's buildings gets destroyed and he's trying to save all the people inside the building and he can't," Cavill told Total Film (via Superhero Hype). "So he is this angry person who fears what Superman may do. Why are they just going to trust this super-powered alien? What if he does decide to turn against us?"
Closing quote

There's probably more to the story than that, as rumor has it that the fight between Superman and Zod led to the death of someone close to Batman. But it's also possible that he just feels guilty that he couldn't save all of those people and is concerned about Superman's unchecked power, which honestly would be a little more interesting.

Opening quote
"He's found himself in a place of harboring a tremendous amount of rage for Superman," Affleck said. "So it's how he got there, and what that's done to him, and what that's done to people around him like Alfred, who are, I think, very scared and worried for him. It's something that's interesting and new."
Closing quote

Affleck also commented on those rumors about him directing the Batman solo film, which it seems will likely happen if he can fit it into his busy schedule:

Opening quote
"If I could make it work, yeah, Obviously that would be like a dream. The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you – if you're going to direct it – that you can make it good. You've got to have the right idea and the right take on it… Broadly speaking, it's something I'd be open to, for sure. It's a very exciting idea."
Closing quote

And finally, Zack Snyder revealed why Ben Affleck is the "perfect" Batman:

Opening quote
"I had a really strong idea about what I wanted to do," Snyder told CBR. "I really wanted to do sort of a fabric-based Batman; not what's become the more normal, armoured Batman. That's how we evolved it. I definitely wanted an older Batman. I wanted a war-weary Batman. That's why, in a lot of ways, Ben was really perfect for me - we kind of aged him a little bit. It worked really great. I'm really excited about the Batman we created."
Closing quote

I really don't understand what he means when he says he doesn't want this version to be the "normal, armored Batman," as the new Batsuit is more of a mecha Batman than we've ever seen before. But aside from that, it's very possible that Affleck will become the definitive Batman. He's a much more talented actor than people give him credit for, and while Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne was well-received, it won't be nearly as difficult to live up to as, say, Heath Ledger's Joker.

UPDATE - 01/05/16 06:59 pm

Snyder gave Total Film (via Comicbook.com) his answer to the age-old question: how could Batman possibly go toe-to-toe with Superman?

Opening quote
"The advantage that Batman has is the goodness of Superman, the compliance to fair lay that Superman has... Batman knows how to exploit Superman."
Closing quote

This is a slightly confusing way of saying that Batman has the advantage over Superman because he's willing to fight dirty and be ruthless, while Superman is ultimately good and committed to playing fair. We could have guessed this, of course, but it certainly makes the film sound more exciting.

Batman v Superman opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
