Who's Directing Gambit? Three Directors Reportedly in the Running
Let's be honest: For a superhero movie based on a popular X-Men member that's due out in less than a year, Gambit isn't getting a lot of attention. And what attention it has gotten has been negative. Star Channing Tatum famously almost left the film, and director Rupert Wyatt did leave the project back in September. Gambit still hasn't found itself a new director, and therefore still hasn't begun filming, but new reports indicate there may be some contenders for the job.

According to rumors, Tatum wants Doug Liman to direct the film. Liman definitely has some strong action credits to his name, since he directed The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, but who knows if he would be interested in helming such a controlled property. Other rumors suggest that Fox is looking at either Shane Black or Joe Cornish. Black recently directed Iron Man 3, so he's no stranger to big budget superhero films, but Cornish has only ever directed one feature film: 2011's low budget alien invasion movie Attack the Block. Attack the Block was well-received though, and an out-of-the-box Cornish directing Gambit could turn out to be the next James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy... or the next Josh Trank and Fantastic Four. In other words, he's no sure thing.

Keep in mind, these are all just rumors, but at least there's hope that this movie can get off the ground soon and finally bring everyone's favorite Cajun mutant to the big screen. And yes, I'm aware there was a character named "Gambit" in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that was no one's favorite anything.
