You May Not Be Able to Dress Like Kylo Ren at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Premiere
Cosplay is a regular staple of nerdy movie openings, and under normal circumstances, this year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere would likely be swarmed by Kylo Rens, as well as classics like Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Stormtroopers, etc. But now, it looks like many theaters won't allow you to dress up as any of these characters, as there are restrictions in place for cosplayers on opening night:

Although costumes are welcomed at Cinemark, they won't allow any costume that hides the face, including masks or face makeup. And if you thought you could dress up as a Jedi instead, think again, as weapons such as lightsabers won't be allowed, either. No specific reason is given for these restrictions, but we can only assume it's for moviegoers' safety, as this huge premiere would be a prime breeding ground for gun violence.

Cinemark joins AMC in these restrictions, as the theater chain stated right after the release of the trailer that face masks and any type of simulated gun aren't allowed (although they, unlike Cinemark, allow lightsabers).

It's unclear whether all major theater chains will have the same attitude, but we can only imagine that most of them will. As much as we love cosplay, it's much more important to protect people's safety, and there has been a glut of movie theater shootings recently. It's a shame that we need to worry about this; maybe this news will convert some disappointed cosplayers to the pro-gun control side.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18.
