Is an X-Files Spin-Off on the Way?
Many fans are wondering why the new X-Files reboot is so short. After all, six episodes doesn't allow for a ton of storytelling from a show that used to have 22 episode seasons on the regular; especially if some of those episodes are going to feature Monsters of the Week. So some are now speculating that an alternate reason for the miniseries existing is to serve as a kind of pilot for a potential spin-off series starring two of the new characters it's going to introduce.

The new characters in question are Agents Mills and Einstein, and they're apparently really into aliens. As a bonus, the actors playing them are Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell, who bear more than a passing resemblance to a young Mulder and Scully. Ergo, the rumor going around that the new X-Files would test the waters for a spin-off featuring the adventures of these two new agents. If the reboot does well in the ratings and the characters were well-received, then the new series will be a go. If not, well then, it won't. But is it true?

Maybe, maybe not. TV Line asked series creator Chris Carter about the potential spin-off, and he wouldn't outright deny that one could happen. But he didn't acknowledge plans for one either. So basically, this could go either way. Frankly, we're totally on board with a new series helmed by Carter that takes place in the X-Files universe, though we have to admit not having Mulder and Scully around may be a bit of a tough sell.
