UPDATED: Mariah Carey to Play Commissioner Gordon in The Lego Batman Movie
In a strange bit of casting news, multiple Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey has been cast as Commissioner Gordon in Lego Batman. The singer/actress is still in talks for the role, but Deadline reports that she will likely join Will Arnett (Batman), Michael Cera (Robin), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Ralph Feinnes (Alfred), and Zach Galifianakis (The Joker) in the Lego Movie spin-off.

We're excited about the gender-swapping, but a little more hesitant about Carey herself, who is much better known as a singer than an actress. But there's a chance that she'll sing for the role (no official word either way yet), and she is actually somewhat established as an actress, having received positive reviews in high-profile films like Precious and The Butler.

UPDATE - 11/09/15 03:03 pm

According to THR, Carey will not be playing Commissioner Gordon, but the as-yet-unnamed mayor of Gotham. That would be kind of a shame, as a gender-swapped Gordon would have been much more interesting, but this sounds a little more likely.

Lego Batman will be directed by Chris McKay and written by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith. It is slated to hit theaters on February 10, 2017.
