The Force Awakens Has Already Doubled Terminator: Genisys's Opening Weekend
The studio heads at Disney are going to be swimming in a pool of gold coins à la Scrooge McDuck by the time Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters, as the film has already brought in $50 million in pre-sale tickets a month before its release.

Just how successful is that? Well for one, it's good enough to break the record for pre-sale ticket dollars set by the first Hunger Games movie back in 2012. Also, if the movie didn't sell another ticket, it would still rank as the 19th best opening weekend at the box office this year. It's pulled in nearly double what supposed blockbuster Terminator: Genisys made on its actual opening weekend ($27 million) back in July, and it has already defeated the actual box office returns for the opening weekends of some of the year's other biggest films, like Mad Max: Fury Road ($45 million) and Hotel Transylvania 2 ($48 million). It has even made more money than Jupiter Ascending did ($47 million) during its entire domestic run. And its only going to get crazier.

Current estimates suggest that the movie's pre-sale numbers could double before its December 18 release, to an insane $100 million. Keep in mind, these are just pre-sale tickets, once the movie opens for real ticket sales will skyrocket. All signs are pointing toward this being an opening weekend to remember. That is, if you can get tickets.
