Star Wars: Disney Has Auditioned 2,500 Actors to Play Young Han Solo
The young Han Solo for the new Star Wars anthology movie is probably one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood right now, and every 20-something actor wants to get a chance at the role. Luckily, it seems that Disney and Lucasfilm are literally auditioning every single actor you can think of (and some that you wouldn't), as they have reportedly seen 2,500 actors for the role so far.

The top-secret project, which is under the working title "Red Cup" (as a pun on "Solo"), is seeing every remote contender in Hollywood, mostly between the ages of 18 and 32. Mid-twenties seems to be preferred, but the actors have ranged in age greatly, from 16-year-old Walking Dead actor Chandler Riggs to Mr. Robot Star Rami Malek, who is 34 (only one year younger than Harrison Ford when the first Star Wars came out).
Opening quote
"This has been the easiest movie to audition for," an agent told THR. "They are seeing everyone."

Lots of names have started to leak, many of whom are easy to guess. The most obvious contenders that have come out so far are probably Miles Teller, Logan Lerman, and Ansel Elgort, all of whom are probably too associated with other big franchises to get the role (same goes for Tom Felton, who is a more unexpected contender). Other big names include Dave Franco, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, and Jurassic World's Nick Robinson, who are all possibilities, but probably still too famous.

There are also a few names that are well-known primarily for television, such as Riggs, Malek, Bates Motel's Max Thieriot, Galavant star Joshua Sasse, Degrassi and Hemlock Grove's Landon Liboiron, Weeds's Hunter Parrish, Teen Wolf's Colton Haynes, and Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick. A few lesser-known names are Kickin' It's Leo Howard, and The Purge's Tony Oller, both of whom may have a better chance than anyone else we've heard so far. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were both relative unknowns compared to most of these actors when they got their Star Wars roles, and the studio will likely pick someone who is not heavily associated with any other big name.

The studio is reportedly looking for someone who looks somewhat like Ford, and who is funny and charming, auditioning a few young comedians in the process. Our dream pick would probably be Miles Teller, but he's too famous to get the role. Our pick for the best Harrison Ford lookalike is Zac Efron, but we doubt Star Wars fans would take too kindly to that. As a dark horse pick, I would go with Rami Malek, who has proven himself to be an extremely talented actor on the little-watched Mr. Robot. Considering the reaction to John Boyega's casting, there would be some controversy, but he looks just as much like Ford as Hunter Parrish or Chandler Riggs does.

The as-yet-untitled Han Solo anthology movie will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, and written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan. It is set to open in theaters on May 25, 2018.
