Marvel Releases First Synopsis, Announces Showrunner for Iron Fist Netflix Series
With Daredevil and Jessica Jones both premiering to huge success this past year, anticipation is already high for Luke Cage and his fellow Hero for Hire, Iron Fist. Nothing has been known about the series up until this point, but now we finally have our first concrete news, in the form of a first synopsis and the announcement of a showrunner: Dexter and Six Feet Under's Scott Buck.

Opening quote
"Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."
Closing quote

Buck doesn't have much experience with superhero narratives, but much of his work, particularly Dexter, has demonstrated that he can write fascinating and flawed central characters. He was not only showrunner for the series for several seasons, but wrote many of its episodes, including the highly acclaimed seventh season premiere "Are You...?", which many critics agreed was the best episode of the later seasons.

Opening quote
"Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet," said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. "We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we've found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders."

Opening quote
"I've always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that's what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and "Iron Fist" to life with Marvel on Netflix," said Buck.
Closing quote

We when the series will come out, but it will likely be a while, especially considering that they haven't cast Iron Fist yet. The Marvel/Netflix collaborations seem to be coming out twice a year, with Luke Cage and Daredevil season two coming out in 2016, so it's possible we can look forward to Iron Fist in 2017 (maybe right after a second season for Jessica Jones??)
