Has Black Panther Found Its Director?
Marvel has been searching for a director of its upcoming Black Panther film for months now, ever since Selma director Ava DuVernay decided not to take the gig last summer. But might the House of Ideas finally be close to signing on someone to head the project about the Wakandan king?

According to a report from Birth. Movies. Death., 29-year-old director Ryan Coogler is in serious talks with Marvel to direct Black Panther. Fresh off directing the Rocky spinoff Creed, which is being heralded as the best film in the franchise since the original, Coogler is a hot name, so it would be a pretty big score if Marvel were able to hire him. The report doesn't state how close the two parties are to reaching a deal, but this is rumored to be the second time Marvel had reached out to Coogler about the gig. The first time he took a pass because he was too busy with Creed, but now that that's over and with him coming back around to talk to Marvel again, he certainly seems like he's interested.

Marvel previously said in October, after hiring writer Joe Robert Cole to pen the film, that they wouldn't be looking for a director for Black Panther until after the script was finished. So either Cole is a really fast writer, or Marvel saw an opportunity to lock down Coogler and decided to jump on it. Let's hope it's the latter, because Coogler could really bring a unique, young voice to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
