The first teaser for Ben Wheatley's adaptation of J.G. Ballard's dystopian satire High-Rise is here, and it features Tom Hiddleston proposing freedom from the shackles of the old, tired world:

The teaser plays like an eerie advertisement/propaganda for the High-Rise, a futuristic luxury apartment building that has all of the necessities and amenities, so people never have to leave. Hiddleston plays a new resident, Laing, who ultimately discovers the the High-Rise is extremely stratified by social class, leading to an eruption of class warfare.

Here's the official synopsis of the novel:

Opening quote
When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on "enemy" floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.
Closing quote

It's hard to know what to make of this movie from the trailer, but it's getting mixed-to-positive reviews so far after screenings at TIFF and Fantastic Fest, and there seems to be a consensus that Hiddleston and Luke Evans, who plays a documentary filmmaker on the lowly second floor, turn in great performances. As of now, it could be great, it could be mediocre, or it could be a weird film that gains a cult following (particularly Loki fans).

High-Rise doesn't yet have a U.S. release date, but is expected to come out sometime next year.
