Lawrence Kasdan on How to Cast Young Han Solo
Lawrence Kasdan has had a pretty big hand in shaping the Star Wars movies, as he co-wrote the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens. Now, he's planning on retiring after penning the upcoming Han Solo origin movie, but before he does he has some thoughts on how one can go about casting a young, scruffy nerfherder. And if anyone is qualified to have an opinion on this, it's Kasdan. Here's what he told Vulture on the subject:

Opening quote
"You want someone who isn't going to be exactly like Harrison, you want someone who suggests him," he said. "It's like when you adapt a book, and I've adapted a couple: You don't want to adapt it word for word, you want the essence to come through. With Harrison, though, it's not easy to find someone with those kinds of qualities. He's like Spencer Tracy, and what does a young Spencer Tracy look like?"
Closing quote

So it's not so much finding somebody who looks like Harrison Ford, but rather someone who captures his essence. Hmm. That's going to be tough, but if that's the criteria then maybe the same guy could also be the next Indiana Jones! We just hope they find the right actor... if he even exists.
