It's finally 2016 (although none of us will remember to write that on forms until about March), and after a year that included Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, our expectations for nerdy blockbusters are high. Fandango just released the results of their survey for the most anticipated movies of 2016, and geek franchises dominate the top ten, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story unsurprisingly taking first place:

1.      "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (December 16)

Rogue One

2.      "Finding Dory" (June 17)

3.      "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (March 25)

4.       Untitled Jason Bourne Movie (July 29)

5.      "Captain America: Civil War" (May 6)

6.      "Star Trek Beyond" (July 22)

7.      "Independence Day: Resurgence" (June 24)

8.      "X-Men: Apocalypse" (May 27)

9.      "Zoolander No. 2" (February 12)

10.    "The Jungle Book" (April 15)

The list is mostly the usual suspects, although with a few significant omissions. It's a little surprising to see that Suicide Squad didn't make the top ten, especially since Batman v Superman on Youtube" href="" target="_blank">the trailer got more views than Batman v Superman, and we would have loved to see Deadpool on the list, although I suppose that's a little more niche. Ryan Reynolds did make the list of most anticipated comic book character debuts, but was soundly beaten by Gal Godot's Wonder Woman. Between her performance in Batman v Superman, which is already getting rave reviews from test screenings, and the female-led Rogue One following up the female-led Force Awakens, it should be a great year for women in sci-fi.
