Greg Nicotero Says The Walking Dead Season Six Is "Climbing Towards a Major Death"
The first half of The Walking Dead season six had an attack from the Wolves, a zombie horde invasion, and a ridiculous fake-out death, but through all of that, all of the core main characters escaped more or less unscathed. But with the impending arrival of Negan, that will likely change very soon, and if EP Greg Nicotero is to be believed, the back half of the season will likely depict the same fan favorite death as the comics.

In a new interview with Empire (via Comicbook.com), Nicotero called the latter half of the season "relentless" and "heartbreaking," which, honestly, could describe any of the seasons when they're playing their cards right. But he went on to drop a big hint to fans of the comics:

"If you read the comic book, you know we're climbing towards a major death," he said.

As can be seen in the mid-season finale's post-credits scene and the above promo, the show is already building towards the arrival of Negan, who will be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. As fans of the comics already know, Negan's arrival probably means the death of fan favorite Glenn (for real this time). Since the show often diverges from the comics, some have speculated that someone else will meet Negan's barbed-wire baseball bat Lucille, possibly Daryl. And that's still possible, but Nicotero's comments seem to imply that they'll be adhering pretty closely to the comics. Plus, it would be such a Walking Dead move to have Glenn miraculously escape certain death by walkers and be reunited with Maggie just to be brutally killed by Lucille.

The Walking Dead season six returns on February 14 on AMC.
