Firefly's Jewel Staite Cast as a Techie on Legends of Tomorrow
Jewel Staite is being typecast in the best way. After playing the beloved mechanic Kaylee on Firefly and the chief medical officer on Stargate Atlantis, Staite has been tapped to play another science-minded character on DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

According to TV Line, Staite will play Rachel Turner, a "tech genius/roboticist who exists in a future in which technology has an even firmer grip on our lives than it does today." She teams up with the Legends in order to stop Vandal Savage, who is destined to use one of her inventions for evil in the future.

It's a guest starring role for now, but it could easily turn into a significant recurring role, as the character is "a descendant from a long line of inventors," and is a relative of someone from the DC Universe. It will likely be someone from the Arrow/Flash universe, with Ray Palmer the most likely possibility, as he is an inventor and a regular on the show. But there's also a possibility that it's Caitlin Snow, Cisco, or even Felicity (that would be a little on-the-nose, but we wouldn't put it past them).

In addition to being a regular on sci-fi classics Firefly and Stargate Atlantis, Staite has also appeared in shows such as The X-Files, Warehouse 13, Supernatural, and The Killing. She will be joined by several other significant guest stars, mostly from the Flash/Arrow universe, such as Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Katie Cassidy, Neal McDonough, and Carlos Valdes.
