The CW Wants Vixen to Spin Off Into a Live-Action TV Show
Megalyn Echikunwoke will appear on Arrow as Mari McCabe, aka Vixen, in one month, and we hoped that her guest appearance could lead to the character's addition to Legends of Tomorrow. But now, it seems that her future is even more optimistic than we could have hoped for, as CW president Mark Pedowitz says that they're hoping to give Vixen her own live-action show.

Opening quote
"Hopefully, that character could actually spin itself out, if not, maybe join as one of the Legends [of Tomorrow]," Pedowitz said at the TCA winter press tour (via CBM).
Closing quote

This would be incredibly exciting, as Vixen is not only a great character in her own right, but she would be the first superhero show to feature a woman of color in the main role. Legends is a good back-up, but we hope that her Arrow appearance is popular enough that she gets a chance to star in her own show. Some are suggesting that Vixen could be a limited series that serves as a midseason replacement for The Flash and Arrow, similar to Agent Carter. This doesn't sound like the worst idea on its face, and it would be better than nothing, but it would be pretty depressing to see female-led series constantly serving as companions to male-led or ensemble shows.

Vixen currently appears in her own animated show on CW's streaming service Seed, which has received positive reviews and attracted a more-than-respectable following for an animated webseries, and has been renewed for a second season. She will make her first live-action appearance on Arrow's fifteenth episode, tentatively scheduled to air on February 24.
