Has Amber Heard Just Been Cast as Aquaman’s Queen Mera?
According to Hollywood Reporter, actress Amber Heard is in final negotiations to play Aquaman's wife and Queen of Atlantis in Justice League Part 1.

Mera's powers compliment Aquaman's in some pretty interesting ways, as she's able to control and manipulate water with her mind. She's been part of the King of Atlantis' supporting cast for quite some time - over 50 years. So it's only appropriate now that Arthur Curry has entered the cinematic world, his wife Mera should too.

Amber Heard has appeared in a number of films and TV shows including Pineapple Express, The Rum Diary, and Magic Mike XXL among many others. She certainly looks the part, but she would certainly fit the character more by dying her hair red, which in all probability will happen.

What type of role Mera will have in Justice League is another question entirely, however. Though Mera will most likey play a large role in Aquaman, she may only have a cameo or play a very brief role in Justice League. That said, if she did play a larger role, it'd probably end up benefiting the film in terms of diversity. So far, Wonder Woman is the only female member of the team that's been confirmed. Adding Mera to the ensemble or at least have her assisting Aquaman in the League's missions would go a long way with female representation.

With Justice League set to start filming soon, casting decisions such as these will probably become commonplace. The question is: will Warner Bros. let us in on them? Maybe -- but then again, maybe not. Though a list of names from Wonder Woman's cast was released in a press release not long ago, no one really knows who most of these actors and actresses are playing.

Of course, Mera has been fancast hundreds of times since Jason Momoa was announced as the DCEU's Aquaman, but Amber's name hasn't come up once. That's probably a good thing, though, because history has shown that most fans know absolutely nothing when it comes to good superhero casting (remember Michael Keaton and Heath Ledger?). So far, she seems to be a good choice, but we'll probably have to wait and see to know for sure when Justice League Part 1 hits theaters in 2017.
