The 100 Showrunner Compares Upcoming Fight Scene to That Famous Duel in Game of Thrones
The 100 is an incredibly exciting sci-fi adventure with a layered, complex storytelling involving political power plays, intercultural conflict, and elaborate mythology and history. So naturally, the writing has drawn many comparisons to Game of Thrones, and according to Jason Rothenberg, an upcoming fight scene will make those parallels even more explicit.

In a new interview, Rothenberg claimed that an upcoming episode has "one of the best fight scenes of the series," likely the fight between Lexa and Roan seen in the trailer.

Opening quote
"It's amazing what we're pulling off for the, let's say 'budget' that we have," Rothenberg told Nerdist. "We are not a show like Game of Thrones that has feature film money... they shoot for 200 days on f***ing five continents. They shoot for 20 days per episode, on two continents. It's something ridiculous like that. We shoot for eight days in one location, one city. It's for a tenth of the money. It's crazy."

The showrunner went on to compare this scene to a similar fight scene in Game of Thrones:

Opening quote
"Yes, I'm complaining and bragging, especially about that scene. But it is amazing," Rothenberg said. "Our stunt crew is really firing on all cylinders. That scene is ridiculous. We shot that scene in six hours. I think Game of Thrones shot their similar fight scene in like eight days. So there you go! I'm complaining again. I want more time!"

We can only assume that he's referring to one of the most famous fight scenes in the entirety of Game of Thrones: Oberyn vs The Mountain.

He's being somewhat self-deprecating in the comparison, but even judging from the few seconds of the fight we see in the trailer, this showdown between Lexa and Roan already looks absolutely amazing. With the possible exception of Lexa finding that field of bodies, it's probably what sticks out most in the trailer:

The footage of the fight starts around :49:

Rothenberg also previewed the growing bond between Clarke and Roan, which was hinted at in last week's episode. According to both Rothenberg and Zach McGowan, who plays Roan, that bond will start to deepen in tonight's episode.

Opening quote
"Once you get involved with Wanheda, it's hard to get untangled from her life," McGowan said.

It seemed that they were setting Roan up as another possible love interest, and Rothenberg heavily hints at that aspect to their dynamic:

Opening quote
"What's making both of those people tick is doing what's best for their people," Rothenberg said. "By the way, that's the theme of this series. It both unites characters when they realize that they want the same thing, while at the same time pitting characters against each other, of course, because they want the same thing but for different groups of people. It's going to be an interesting back-and-forth kind of relationship for the season, for the two of them. Or at least, as long as they both shall live."
Closing quote

Tonight's episode will also tell us more about Roan's backstory as the prince of the "Spartan" Ice Nation, as well as his relationship with his mother, who may or may not have been the one who banished him.

Opening quote
"You'll see Roan's past problems with his culture and his mother and his people come into play," McGowan said. "Roan doesn't exactly have a normal mother/son relationship with her."
Closing quote

That sounds intriguing enough, although I can only hope that The 100 doesn't take its cue from Game of Thrones in its portrayal of abnormal familial relationships.

The 100 airs tonight at 9pm ET on The CW.
