10 Cloverfield Lane Super Bowl Trailer Teases the Monster
10 Cloverfield Lane has been advertised as a "blood relative" to Cloverfield, but that could mean anything. It could be a shared location, a shared character, or an even smaller connection that's little more than a glorified Easter Egg. But from the new footage in the film's Super Bowl TV spot, the connection is much more substantive than that, and may be the Cloverfield monster itself.

The first trailer seemed to indicate that any connection to Cloverfield would be minimal, as the movie essentially follows three characters living in a bunker after some kind of chemical war has (maybe) devastated Earth. It still seems that most of the movie takes place in the bunker, but we got a little glimpse of what happens when Mary Elizabeth Winstead makes it outside, and it's apparently some kind of monster, possibly the same monster from Cloverfield.

It's still unclear whether the monster could be a big part of the movie, since J.J. Abrams has said that the idea to connect it to Cloverfield came to him during production, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead claimed that there weren't any huge changes to the script during filming. But it's possible that this has been a monster movie all along, and it was fairly simple (and somewhat separate from the script/actors) to make the monster the Cloverfield monster. We can only hope that the monster makes an actual appearance, and that the final shot of this trailer isn't the final shot of the movie. (Although I have to admit, that would be a pretty great final shot.)

10 Cloverfield Lane comes out in theaters on March 11.
