The Walking Dead Midseason Premiere Will Have 1300 Walkers
The Walking Dead is finally returning this week, and judging from the early buzz, it will be a large-scale, epic showdown that showcases what the show does best. According to a recent EW interview with EP and makeup artist Greg Nicotero, it will contain a huge and "unprecedented" zombie attack.

Opening quote
The first half of the season we introduced the quarry and the fact that the walkers had escaped from the quarry, and then we followed our group through all the trials and tribulations of trying to get back to Alexandria, protect Alexandria, and protect each other. And episode 9, basically, takes all of these various storylines and slams everything together in an epic man against the undead battle that is unprecedented in the history of The Walking Dead.

According to Nicotero, this battle will break the season premiere's record for most walkers in a single episode, ratcheting up to a whopping 1300:

Opening quote
The record that we had established in episode 1 of season 6 will already be broken in this episode in regards to the number of walkers and the number of kills. It's the action movie version of The Walking Dead... With reshoots and with additional photography and things, I think we were over 1,300 walkers for episode.
Closing quote

The last we saw the group, Glenn was off on his own, Abraham, Sasha, and Daryl were separated (and running into Negan's crew), while Alexandria had come under attack from the walkers that split off from the quarry. Michonne, Rick, Jessie, and their sons were last seen making their way through the horde covered in guts, which made for an anticlimactic ending to the half-season, but promised lots of carnage in the midseason premiere, especially for fans who are privy to events in the comics. To be fair, The Walking Dead has pretty much been "the action movie version of The Walking Dead" for the past two seasons or so, and not always to the show's benefit. But at the very least, this episode should be very exciting.

The Walking Dead returns with "No Way Out" on February 14 at 9pm on AMC.
