Hannibal's Bryan Fuller is Returning to Star Trek as Showrunner of the New CBS Series
There has been so much anxiety from Star Trek fans about the direction of CBS's planned new series, we've barely been able to reflect on how exciting it is that the franchise is returning to TV. Today, that anxiety will have been eased somewhat with the announcement that Bryan Fuller has been signed as the co-creator and showrunner of the new series.

Most recently, Bryan Fuller was responsible for creating the critically acclaimed show, Hannibal, but it's his history with the Star Trek franchise that is certain to get fans excited about this announcement. Fuller spent a number of years writing beloved stories for Star Trek: Voyager and actually got his career start writing on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. To have someone who knows the franchise this well in such a critical role for the new series is going to be music to the ears of many Trek fans. Fuller's passion for the franchise was evident in a statement he gave to accompany the announcement.

Opening quote
"My very first experience of 'Star Trek' is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls. Before seeing a frame of the television series, the 'Star Trek' universe lit my imagination on fire," said Fuller via Variety. "It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand new iteration of 'Star Trek' with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no 'Star Trek' series has gone before."
Closing quote

Surely now the anxiety and negativity surrounding this new show can start to be replaced by optimism and excitement?

The new CBS Star Trek series will launch on the network's premium content channel, CBS All Access, in January 2017.
