Fox Just Greenlit a 'Deadpool' Sequel
Deadpool hasn't even premiered yet, but Fox has such confidence in the film's success that they've already greenlit a sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The news is pretty surprising, given that it took a test reel starring Ryan Reynolds going viral to get the first film made, and then another battle with the studio for it to get an R rating. But the movie must be tracking well, because it looks like more Deadpool is in our future.

And indeed, it is tracking very well, with current estimates suggesting it could earn $70 million over the four day President's Day weekend, which would put it in some pretty rare company for an R-rated movie. Also, the movie's budget was only $58 million, so for a superhero movie to recoup its entire budget in its opening weekend is almost unheard of.

Granted, the movie could bomb and the sequel could be canceled like Fox's last superhero movie, Fantastic Four, but we don't think that's going to happen. Deadpool has the benefit of strong reviews heading into its opening weekend, and it's also the first movie in the franchise, whereas FF was rebooting an already unpopular one.

As for what that sequel would look like, bringing Cable into the mix almost seems like a guarantee at this point, and Reynolds is very keen on making an X-Force movie. Might we be looking at Cable as the villain in Deadpool 2, followed by a team-up of the characters, maybe joined by Psylocke and Wolverine, in an X-Force movie? OK, we need to breathe, we're getting ahead of ourselves, but the good news here is that Deadpool is getting a sequel. More chimichangas for everybody!
