LucasFilm Confirms Star Wars: Episode VIII is Officially in Production With Luke Skywalker Teaser
It's a wonderful time to be a Star Wars fan right now. With the franchise back on track thanks to JJ Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we've already got another new Star Wars movie to look forward to this year in the form of Rogue One. But for many, the real excitement is held by the continuation of the franchise's third trilogy, Star Wars: Episode VIII. Directed by Rian Johnson, Episode VIII won't hit theaters until December 2017, but today LucasFilm announced that the movie has officially started production, edging us one step closer to learning more about the fate of the galaxy we all so desperately adore.

In their official announcement video, LucasFilm take us back to the Skellig Michael set that closed out Episode VIII, seemingly suggesting that Johnson's movie will pick up right where its predecessor left off....with Rey finally reaching Luke Skywalker and hungry for answers.

Sure, we've still got the best part of 2 years until we get to see what Rian Johnson and LucasFilm has planned for our heroes (and villains), but that doesn't make us any less excited. With the movie hopefully shedding light on Luke Skywalker's mental state, Rey's burgeoning connection with the force, and the mystery of Supreme Leader Snoke, Star Wars: Episode VIII might just have what it takes to match the ridiculous levels of hype that surrounded The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is released in theaters on December 15th 2017
