If it isn't already, it's time to put Midnight Special firmly on your radar. Between the lofty praise comparing it to the sci-fi classics such as ET, Close Encounters, and Starman, and the brilliantly constructed trailers, Midnight Special has rapidly become one of the most exciting sci-fi movies of the year.

Released today, this latest trailer is further evidence that Jeff Nichols is starting to become one of Hollywood's biggest talents. But Nichols is just one reason Midnight Special is such an exciting prospect. The cast includes Michael Shannon– reunited with Nichols after 'Take Shelter'–, Adam Driver once again showing his villainous side, and Kirsten Dunst and Joel Egerton rounding things out, there's a ridiculous amount of talent on show.

Midnight Special is released on March 18th, but if you aren't convinced you should delay your Daredevil binge-watching for a couple of hours, watch the latest trailer and check out the synopsis from Warner Bros., below.

Opening quote
In the sci-fi thriller "Midnight Special," writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon), goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy's special powers.

What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever, in this genre–defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.
Closing quote

Seriously, we're fully expecting this to be 2016's Ex Machina moment, and that's something that should make a lot of science fiction fans very, very excited.
