X-Men Producer Says X-Force Movie Could Be R-Rated
Deadpool premiered this past weekend and smashed box office records, earning the highest domestic opening of any R-rated movie ever, any X-Men movie, and even any movie ever released by 20th Century Fox period. For reference, remember that Fox released all Star Wars movies prior to The Force Awakens, so that last one is especially impressive. And now the film's effects are already being felt throughout the world of superhero movies, with X-Men universe producer Simon Kinberg saying that a future X-Force movie could carry an R rating.

Conventional wisdom said that R-rated superhero movies could not perform well at the box office, and that PG-13 was the way to go to maximize profits. But in just a few days, Deadpool has upended that notion, and left studios trying to figure out what fans really want. Here's what Kinberg told Collider when they asked him if any specific properties were being groomed for an R rating:

Opening quote
"I think there are some stories that could be R-rated. I don't know what they are, I mean I think the mainline X-Men movies have their own tone, which is a more operatic tone. It's more dramatic, it is more PG-13 in a way. X-Force I could see being R-rated, and who knows?"

Of all of Fox's X-properties, X-Force seems like it would make the most sense to sport a 17 & up rating. The series is darker and more violent than other X-Men books, and it could very well be formed as a spinoff of Deadpool itself, since it's already basically confirmed that Cable, the face of X-Force, will be in Deadpool 2. So as far as we're concerned X-Force probably should be R-rated... especially if it's going to have Deadpool in it.
