Fox Confirms They're Targeting an R-Rating for Wolverine 3
R-Rated movies are so hot right now. Fresh off of Deadpool's runaway success, Hollywood seems to be taking note that an R-rating doesn't necessarily spell doom for a film's chances at the box-office. After all, the vast majority of fans over a certain age have been crying out for the comic book movie genre to once again embrace the more-forgiving rating. In the time since Deadpool's release, we've had Todd McFarlane announcing a potential new Spawn movie and Simon Kinberg suggesting that an R-rated X-Force movie is a real possibility. But today we got word showing the strongest indication yet that R-rated comic book movies are making a comeback.

At Fox's presentation at New York's annual Toy Fair, materials were handed out detailing upcoming releases as well as their anticipated rating. In these materials (released on Imgur by Ray Chaos) Fox state that they anticipate Wolverine 3 to come with an R-rating.

While previous Wolverine movies were not made with an R-rating in mind, many fans wish that they were. Wolverine is an inherently violent character, and although his comics aren't gratuitous in that manner, we are all aware that an R-Rating would allow the character to truly spread his proverbial wings, especially if Jackman's last appearance as the character is going to follow the classic Old Man Logan arc.

That being said, R-ratings should not be targeted just for the sake of it. While we're keen to see more freedom in these movies, having studios needlessly shoehorning their projects into an R would have the opposite effect of what we want. What's most important is that these movies stay true to their characters, luckily, Wolverine would be right at home in an R-rated movie.
