Fox Wants to Order More Episodes of The X-Files
With the X-Files finale premiering on Monday, fans are clamoring to know whether this will be the last episode of the franchise (for the foreseeable future, at least), or whether Fox will order an eleventh season. Now, Fox entertainment president David Madden claims that the network "would love to do more," especially considering the revival's record-breaking ratings.

Opening quote
"We said before it aired that we would love to do more, and we are over the moon with the performance. So far, the response has been really encouraging," Madden told Variety.

This isn't a confirmation, but the fact that the network is "over the moon" about the ratings is a fairly reliable sign that the show will be back. The premiere, especially, was a huge ratings success, garnering 50 million viewers in the first three days. The February 8 episode beat every drama that week except for the premiere of The Walking Dead (which no one can be expected to beat, even the NFL), including the premieres of Shondaland ratings juggernauts Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder. Thus far, it seems that the only obstacle is getting the cast and creative minds on board:

Opening quote
"We haven't talked to the talent yet about Season 2 in any more definitive way than we had prior to airing the show, but certainly, it seems like there's an audience responding to the show that would love to see more episodes," said Madden.
Closing quote

"The talent" is worryingly vague, so hopefully he means David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson need to be back on board in order to continue. The fifth episode seemed suspiciously like a backdoor pilot of X-Files: The Next Generation, but the only reliable part of the revival has been the chemistry between Mulder and Scully, so continuing without them is a terrible idea. Luckily, Variety's sources claim that talks regarding another season are focused on working around the schedules of Duchovny, Anderson, and Chris Carter, so it seems that Fox understands that (although I wouldn't put it past them to continue the franchise without them if they can't work it out).

The X-Files finale, "My Struggle pt II," airs Monday at 8pm ET on Fox.
