Pacific Rim 2 Is Really Happening, Daredevil Showrunner to Direct
After a long, long emotional roller coaster, it looks like Pacific Rim fans can finally rest easy. The sequel is really happening, and has found a director in head Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.

Guillermo del Toro was the mastermind behind the surprise breakout film, but don't worry, he'll still be heavily involved.

Pacific Rim wasn't a huge commercial success when it first came out in 2013, but unexpectedly became a runaway hit and developed a huge cult following. After a long wait, a sequel was finally greenlit and scheduled for a 2017 release date, only for production to be "halted indefinitely" last year.

This sounded suspiciously like the film was going to languish in development hell for years, maybe forever, but del Toro assured fans that the sequel was still happening, only later than expected. And it looks like he's made good on his promise, as the film will move forward with DeKnight as director and del Toro as executive producer.

In addition to Daredevil, DeKnight has worked on many beloved geek shows, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse, and Smallville. He has also reportedly joined the Transformers writers room, which is headed by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman.
