Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One Has Found Its Parcival
With its oodles of pop culture references and rich virtual reality worlds, Ready Player One might be one of the most ambitious science fiction adaptations in recent memory. We should be thankful then, that Steven Spielberg is leading the way on the project to bring Ernest Cline's debut novel to the big screen. Spielberg and his team have already started building out the cast for the movie, but the role of protagonist Wade Watts who goes by the gaming handle of Parzival had remained frustratingly vacant. That is until now, because i's just been announced that Tye Sheridan has secured the role.

Most recently seen in Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Sheridan is on the up and up in Hollywood, and he'll soon be appearing as Scott Summers aka Cyclops in Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse. But the role of Parzival could end up being his biggest yet, with Ready Player One likely to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the next couple of years. Sheridan joins Olivia Cooke who will play love-interest/gaming bad-ass Ar3mis and Ben Mendelsohn who takes up the role of Corporate D-bag, Nolan Sorrento.

Set in the near future, when vast numbers of the population spend the majority of their time in the virtual reality world of OASIS, Ready Player One sees geeky Wade Watts embark on a quest to find the virtual reality Easter Eggs left in the OASIS by the platform's creator, who posthumously decreed that the first person to find them all, will inherit his entire empire. The only problem is, Wade isn't the only talented gamer on the hunt for the Easter Eggs, and there's even a corporate entity sending out armies of scavengers with the hope to securing the vast fortune and power that comes with owning the OASIS.

Spielberg's Ready Player One adaptation was recently caught up in the release date shuffle that was triggered by Star Wars: Episode VIII's move to December. Previously slated for a December 2017 release, Ready Player One quickly hopped away from Episode VIII's crosshairs, moving to a March 30th 2018 release date, meaning that we now have over 2 years to wait before we see the worlds of OASIS come to life.
