New Star Wars Rebels Episode Descriptions Tease a Potentially Huge Sith Showdown
This week ushers in the beginning of an exciting climactic stretch for Star Wars Rebels Season 2. As the trailer for 'Shroud of Darkness' showed us that Ahsoka and Ezra will kick Ezra's Jedi training up a notch this week, taking the trio on a journey to some seriously dark places. With just five episodes left of the season, there's still a great deal of action from the midseason trailer, which means there are still some huge plot points for us to visit.

Now, Broadway World has released the plot descriptions for the Season 2 run-in, and they give us a sense of how things might pan out, with one particular episode standing in particular.

Potential Spoilers for Star Wars Rebels Season 2 below

Shroud of Darkness: Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka return to the Jedi Temple on Lothal, seeking answers from Yoda about the Inquisitors' ability to continually track the rebels. Airs March 2nd

The Forgotten Droid: When Chopper gets left behind at an Imperial outpost, he forms an unlikely friendship with an Imperial droid, and discovers a base location for the rebels. Airs March 16th

The Mystery of Chopper Base: Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka prepare to depart to unravel Vader's secret, while the rebels find a way to fend off the predatory creatures that occupy the planet. Airs March 23rd

Twilight of the Apprentice: Part I and II: After gaining information about the Sith, Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka battle the Inquisitors with the help of a new ally, but are overmatched when Vader arrives. Airs March 30th

It's clear from these descriptions that Vader is going to become an increasingly prominent force as this Season nears its climax, but what is looking increasingly likely is that it won't just be Ahsoka, Kanan and Ezra with whom he does battle with.

As we mentioned in our breakdown of the midseason trailer, we're 99% sure that Ezra will join forces with one-time Sith apprentice, Darth Maul. While Maul has been a thorn in the side of the Jedi multiple times since his defeat at the hands of Obi Wan in a Phantom Menace, his hatred for his ex-Master Emperor Palpatine has consumed him more than anything he could feel towards the Order. We weren't quite sure whether Maul's role in Rebels would be one of Villain of Ally, but it now looks as though the powerful Dathomirian will be siding with Ezra and his Jedi pals. What's more, it looks like we could see a mouth-watering clash between two of Palpatine's minions, with Vader getting the chance to take on his Sith predecessor Maul.

Of course, we've seen Maul take on Palpatine before, but the prospect of seeing him and Vader do battle is almost indescribably exciting. While I'm definitely clutching at straws, this new development could mean that what we were all expecting to happen in the season finale might not necessarily have to happen.

With a showdown between Ahsoka and her ex-Jedi Master confirmed by Dave Filoni, we had all but resigned ourself to the fact that 'Snips' would meet her maker. But, could it be that Twilight of the Apprentice actually refers to Darth Maul? Personally, I think it would be a fitting end to a brilliant character to see Maul sacrifice himself to save Ahsoka, so I'll be clinging onto that idea as a glimmer of hope between now and March 30th.
