One of the most troubled film projects in the history of troubled film projects is finally moving forward. Author Stephen King has announced that the movie adaptation of his Dark Tower series, which blends elements of sci-fi, fantasy, westerns, and horror, is finally moving forward. Not only that, but he also confirmed that Idris Elba will be playing the protagonist, Roland the Gunslinger, while Matthew McConaughey will portray his nemesis, the Man in Black.

Elba also confirmed the news on Twitter, cheekily reference's the series' opening line "The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed" to McConaughey.

And McConaughey, of course, responded.

For anyone who's confused about this, the Dark Tower revolves around the Gunslinger, who comes from a dying world and is trying to reach the Dark Tower, which stands at the center of space and time, in order to save his dimension. But the villainous Man in Black is trying to get there first, in an attempt to rule over all creation. It's unknown how many films will make up the franchise, there are eight novels, but the first movie is currently scheduled for release on January 13, 2017, which may be pushed back given that the movie has not yet started filming. Still, we should be excited because it looks like the Dark Tower movie is finally happening.
