TNT Orders New Sci-Fi Pilot From 'Fifth Element' Director
Artificial Intelligence has dominated the conversation lately. Scientists and tech leaders are speaking out about the potential dangers of it, and AI has been big at the movies over the past few years, with films like Her and Ex-Machina expanding the genre, and a Blade Runner reboot ready to explore the genre's past. And now AI is ready to take over TV, with a new show that has some serious sci-fi street cred behind it.

TNT has ordered a pilot for the new series Artificial Intelligence, which is to be written and executive produced by screenwriter Bill Wheeler and filmmaker Luc Besson, who directed the sci-fi films The Fifth Element and Lucy. According to EW, the new series focuses on:

Opening quote
"An artificial intelligence that escapes from a laboratory and begins carrying out its own mysterious agenda, prompting the AI's creator to assemble a team of specialists to deal with the situation."
Closing quote

Shades of Blade Runner, no? The series sounds like it could be very good given both the concept and the talent involved, and it marks Besson's first time writing for American TV. No word yet on when the pilot might air, but given that the show's deal with TNT is for a put pilot, it's practically guaranteed to make it to screen at some point if the cable network wants to avoid a hefty fine.
