Dave Filoni Sheds Light on What Happened to Ahsoka Between Star Wars: Clone Wars and Rebels
This week, Star Wars Rebels: Shroud of Darkness gave us arguably the most important episode in the show's relatively short history. Between the return of Yoda, and Kanan's ascent to the rank of Jedi Knight, there was so much to digest after a truly moving 22 minutes of action. But for many fans, the stand-out moment was when Matt Lanter returned as Anakin Skywalker during Ahsoka's Force vision.

The bond between Ahsoka and Anakin was the focal point of Dave Filoni's Star Wars: Clone Wars, and many fans were devastated when the show was canceled without fully resolving their storyline. When Clone Wars left our screens, Ahsoka had turned her back on the Jedi and her actions were thought to be a major factor in Anakin's growing doubts about the Order. Fast forward 15 years, and Ahsoka has returned on Star Wars Rebels, her powers have grown, but the journeys she has taken since Clone Wars are a mystery. That is until now.

Dave Filoni has made no secret of the fact that he had already planned much of Ahsoka's story by the time the show was canceled, but on this week's Rebels Recon, the Star Wars Rebels showrunner reveals a few key details about what happened to Ahsoka after she left the Jedi Order.

Opening quote
"I've tried to give as many clues as I can as to what did happen after Ahsoka left the Jedi Order," Filoni says. "For now, I have to treat the characters with the experience that I know they had. So Ahsoka can't lie and say 'The last time I saw Anakin I walked away from him at the Jedi Temple.' No, no, no! Because she has seen him since then. She was involved in a very important mission at the end of the Clone Wars. We've gotten to tell a very critical piece of her story, one that I wasn't sure we'd get to tell after The Clone Wars stopped."
Closing quote

In last night's episode of Rebels, Ahsoka revealed that the last time she saw Anakin "he was rushing off to save the Chancellor, then everything changed." This tells us that Anakin and Ahsoka were still in contact even as late as the climactic events of Revenge of the Sith. Between this fact and Ahsoka's comments, it's clear that Ahsoka's contact with the Jedi Order was far from over when we last saw her in Clone Wars.

I'm glad we're starting to see some light shed on these 'dark years', but Filoni's comments also came with a rather ominous ending. After admitting that he never thought he would get a chance to continue Ahsoka's story after Clone Wars, he ended with "We're so close now, to the end, so it's exciting.". That sounds remarkably like we're getting to the end of Ahsoka's journey in the Star Wars Universe, and we're not really sure how to feel about that....
