Disney Previews Rogue One Footage With Chrome Stormtroopers AT-ATs and More
Disney has finally bitten the bullet and revealed footage from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The only problem, it was at a Disney Shareholder meeting, so none of us are going to be seeing it just yet. That being said, a description of the footage has come online, and I have to say, it sounds bloody brilliant.

Spoilers for Rogue One follow

A reader over at SlashFilm was in the Disney meeting and has given a blow by blow account of what he saw. Included in the footage were new (or old, I guess) Stormtroopers, shots of Imperial Military vehicles including AT-ATs, and footage of some of the movie's key players, Felicity Jones and Donnie Yen. Check out the description below:

(A sample of Stormtrooper helmets from the early days of Rogue One's production)

Opening quote
Most of it was very quick. A shot of the black stormtrooper, possibly called Death Troopers as previously reported, another pic of that same style of helmet and armor but all chrome, reminiscent of Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens, an image showed two AT-ATs that had a slightly different look with the door panel on the side of the body painted a lighter beige color. And a couple cast photos were shown, one of Felicity & Diego Luna and another of Donnie Yen. The clip featured Felicity's character on what looked like the inside of a ship or shuttle with her arm up holding on and the hatch/ramp open behind her. I wish I could remember what she said as part of the sizzle but it went by too fast. The new stormtroopers looked great. …
Closing quote

This all sounds really encouraging. Rogue One is clearly going to be a very different Star Wars film to what we've seen before, but it sounds like it's going to retain many of the elements that make the franchise great. The Empire (and organizations like it) are the core of Star Wars, but this time, instead of seeing Jedi hack their way through ranks of Stormtroopers, we'll get to see a more intimate, and ultimately more dangerous kind of action.

Interestingly, SlashFilm's tipster also told them that Disney's Bob Iger clarified where in the Star Wars timeline the movie takes place.

Opening quote
"It's our first original standalone Star Wars story, said Iger. "It's about a band of rebels who are plotting to steal the plans for the Death Star. The action takes place right before the events in the very first Star Wars movie, Episode IV, which was called A New Hope. And I can't wait for you to see it, it's in theaters this December."
Closing quote

While we always knew that Rogue One would take place sometime prior to events of A New Hope, it's interesting that Iger used the phrase "right before", seemingly confirming that the events of Rogue One are taking place just as Luke Skywalker is staring wistfully at the twin moons of Tatooine.

Now, Mr. Iger, if you could just see your way to making some of this footage public, we'll be very very happy.
