What Can We Expect When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 Returns?
For the last couple of months, we've been treated to the whimsy and wit of Agent Carter's Hollywood escapades. While we love Peggy and Co. (and we're hoping it gets a third season), we're also really looking forward to diving back into the world of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

During the show's wild mid-season finale, we were forced to ask some major questions, such as "Did Coulson really just do that?", and "What the hell just happened to Ward?", but getting the answers to these questions are just two of the many reasons we're excited for the return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Here's a guide to everything we're looking for when AOS returns.

Spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Season 3 follow

Introducing Hive

The big mid-season cliffhanger centered around Ward's miraculous return from his fatal scuffle with Coulson on Maveth. After Coulson uncharacteristically finished Ward off with his robotic hand, we were expecting that to be the end of the S.H.I.E.L.D. turncoat, only for him to return in a zombie-like state during the finale's final scene.

We now know that Ward has become the Marvel villain Hive, which is the latest in string of transformations for what has become a fascinating character for the show. In the comics, Hive is a collective entity made out of a huge number of individual parasites, but we're told the TV version is quite different. No matter what guise Hive takes, it's going to be one of the most fearsome predators we've ever seen on the show, and we're really looking forward to seeing how they handle it.

The Secret Warriors

Before this season started, we were told repeatedly to expect the Secret Warriors to make a big impact on the show. In the first half of the season at least, Daisy's collective of Inhuman agents was more sideshow than feature, but we're expecting that to change in a big way over the next few weeks. Now Lincoln has agreed to sign on full-time with S.H.I.E.L.D., joining Daisy and Joey, the agency's powered collective is starting to take shape. But as the trailer above shows, the Secret Warriors line-up is far from complete.

New Inhumans

For the Secret Warriors line-up to grow, we're going to need a few more Inhumans to be introduced, and thanks to those infected pills, there's no shortage of Inhumans trotting around the globe right now. The mid-season trailer teased a number of new powered characters, and we now know the identity of at least one of them. Natalia Cordova-Buckley (seen above) has been cast as the Marvel comics character, Elena Rodriguez. In Marvel's comics, Rodriguez is the daughter of a villain who was recruited by Nick Fury to join the Secret Warriors. Slingshot has the ability to travel at super speed before snapping back to her original location, which could prove useful to S.H.I.E.L.D. .....I guess.

It won't just be the good guys who are getting all the Inhumans, though. The mid-season trailer featured a bespectacled Inhuman who appears to have the ability to paralyze his foe. It also looks like we'll get to see the return of Absorbing Man, and let's not forget about our dear friend, Lash.

What Next for FitzSimmons?

One of the focal points of Season 3 pt.1 was the FitzSimmons relationship. The pair have successfully survived two trips to Maveth, but after Fitz returned home without the other member of the interplanetary love triangle, it's likely we've got more turbulence on the way. We didn't see much of Fitz and Simmons in the promo for this week's episode, but the show has spent too much time laying the groundwork for this arc for them to avoid giving us some form of resolution in the second half of this season.

But, even if we don't see much of Fitzsimmons in this week's episode, we've at least got their cameo in Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. The Sinister 6 to look forward to. Teased in the image below, that episode airs on Disney XD on March 13th.

Setting Up Marvel's Most-Wanted?

As popular as they may be, FitzSimmons aren't actually our favorite couple on the show. Bobbi and Lance, with all their special brand of ass-kicking romance are one of the best things about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. right now, which is probably why they're being given their very own spin-off. Marvel's Most-Wanted will feature Bobbi and Lance undertaking a special mission without the help of their S.H.I.E.L.D. colleagues. The show is set to air later this year, and it's likely that events in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be used to set it up. And, judging by the plot synopsis for episode 13, it's also likely that the foundations are going to be laid a lot sooner than we thought.

Opening quote
After tracking Malick to Russia, Bobby and Hunter become involved in an assassination plot; the team is changed forever as they race to save lives in the balance.
Closing quote

Compare this with the broad synopsis for Marvel's Most-Wanted, and it could be that Bobbi and Lance are going to be taking leave of AoS sooner rather than later.

Opening quote
Centers on Bobbi Morse (a.k.a. Mockingbird) and Lance Hunter of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., two ex-spies and ex-spouses who are on the run with no friends, no S.H.I.E.L.D. and a long list of enemies looking to claim a bounty on their heads. Able to trust no one but each other, Bobbi and Hunter form an uneasy alliance with Dominic Fortune, a rogue adventurer with a wealth of resources and even more adversaries, who agrees to protect them so long as they help him with his own agenda. These two heroes will help anyone in need, all while trying to uncover the conspiracy that put their own lives in jeopardy.

Cast: Adrianne Palicki, Nick Blood, Delroy Lindo

Coulson Breaking Bad

There's no doubting it, Phil Coulson came back from Maveth a very different man. Perhaps not quite as different as Ward, but different nonetheless. For two and a half seasons, Coulson has been the emotional rock and steady hand for our heroes, but as teasers for this week's episode have shown, this might not be the case anymore. Losing someone he loved might have started Coulson down a different path, but killing (or at least trying to kill) someone like Ward so brutally will have impacted him even more. The showrunners have attempted to shake our faith in Coulson in the past, but the next few episodes could see us questioning whether or not he's still able to make the kinds of decisions that are necessary from a leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Potential Season 4 Cliffhangers

Last week, we got the excellent news that ABC had opted to renew Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a fourth season, which means we can already start looking forward to another end-of-season cliffhanger this Spring. It's hard to imagine Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. without Brett Dalton, so it could be that Hive is more than just a half-season wonder, especially given that we're being told that this version of the comic book villain is very different to anything we've seen before.
