Batman v Superman: LexCorp Website Hints at Subplot Not Seen in the Trailers
Batman v Superman's marketing campaign has a lot to learn from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, since the trailers (the second trailer in particular), basically gave away the whole damn movie. Or so it seemed, but the newest piece of viral marketing—Lexcorp's website, naturally—might tease an entirely new subplot we haven't seen yet, possibly involving artificial intelligence.

Once you login to the website (or just click a button to gain "guest access"), the site sends you to a page that asks you to "help [Lexcorp] build a more human system":

Opening quote
"Innovation is a human instinct. The desire to make our lives better, easier and safer has driven invention since man discovered fire. In the 21st century, we are innovating automation. An age of machines that will "think" for us, freeing up human brainpower to tackle the world's bigger questions. When machines behave like machines, they can be compromised. But when machines begin to behave more like humans, that complexity and uniqueness can make us more secure.

Lex/OS is the world's first neural network based operating system. We're teaching it to think like a human, but we need your help. As a Beta tester, your actions will teach the system how humans solve problems. Each time you participate, the system will get smarter. Ready to get started?"
Closing quote

Well, this is a new wrinkle. As far as we can tell from the spoiler-y trailers and the interviews with Zack Snyder, there will be two big showdowns between Batman and Superman, with Batman possibly working at the behest of Lex Luthor, and then the two team up at some point to battle with Lex's creation, Doomsday. So where does the artificial intelligence fit in? It's possible that this website has nothing to do with the plot, that it's just a fun piece of background for die-hard fans, or maybe a teaser for Lexcorp's plans in future installments, like Justice League. But it seems somewhat unlikely that the marketing for Batman v Superman is planning that far ahead, or that it's a random Easter egg that has nothing to do with the movie.

So is there another villain at the end that hasn't been shown in the trailers? As we know now, the movie is extremely long, clocking in at 2 hours and 31 minutes, so that would technically leave time for two Batman v Superman showdowns, a Doomsday showdown, and an entirely new villain in the last forty-five minutes or so, somewhat like Two-Face in The Dark Knight. Could it be OMAC or D.A.V.E.? This movie is starting to feel very crowded, but I would have to admit, I would be happy if there were a real surprise after those very revealing trailers.

Batman v Superman hits theaters on March 25.
