Zack Snyder Thought About Casting Christian Bale in Batman v Superman, But Not For the Role You’re Thinking
A lot of fans of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy were disappointed to hear that Christian Bale would not be playing the part of the Caped Crusader in the upcoming film, Batman v Superman. Of course, there's myriad reasons that couldn't happen - Nolan's trilogy was given a definitive ending, Superman existing in Nolan's universe wouldn't make sense, etcetera, etcetera. All of these reasons and more have been discussed extensively in countless articles around the web. That being said, Zack Snyder did briefly think about casting Christian Bale…but not for the role you're thinking.

Opening quote
Maybe we could hire him to play another part. We did talk about that briefly. I just wanted to hire Christian to play another part to make that obvious. Christian could play, like, Alfred with age makeup. No! Of course not. But you know what I mean.
Closing quote

This quote is taken from Snyder's recent interview with FilmInk, and it's definitely interesting that he actually considered giving Bale a part in the movie. As fun as it would have been to have seen Bale playing Alfred or some other tertiary role, ultimately, it was probably a good move to exclude him from the film. Having the previous rendition of the Dark Knight in a movie coming out so close to his last Batman film would have been slightly confusing and somewhat distracting.

Fans will always remember Bale for his part in what is still often considered to be the greatest superhero film to date, The Dark Knight. However, Ben Affleck's Batman looks like he could very well be the most brutal, comic accurate, fluid, and fearless live action iteration of the Caped Crusader to date from the trailers alone. Hopefully they were indicative of what fans will see on the evening of March 24th, when Batman v Superman hits theaters.
