The next TV series based on a comic book is premiering sooner than you might think. During a screening of the pilot at SXSW on March 14, AMC has announced that Preacher, which is based upon the dark Vertigo Comics series of the same name, is set to premiere on May 22, directly after the mid-season finale of Fear the Walking Dead. The pilot will air at 10 p.m. that night, but if you miss it you can catch it the following week on May 29 when it airs twice more, back to back, starting at 9 p.m. Then on June 5, new episodes will start up again in what will be the show's regular time slot: 9 p.m. on Sundays.

AMC also unveiled a new poster for the series, and they're definitely taking a minimalist approach:

Preacher is developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and stars Agent Carter's Dominic Cooper as the titular preacher. Here's the official synopsis:

Opening quote
Jesse Custer, a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town, is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy embark on a journey to literally find God.
