Simon Pegg Joins Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One
It might have been pushed back to 2018, but that's not stopping Steven Spielberg laying down some serious groundwork for his Ready Player One project. After securing the services of Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke to play the film's two leads, Parcival and Art3mis, the adaptation of Ernest Cline's super-geeky debut novel is now close to adding Simon Pegg to its growing cast.

THR reports that Pegg is close to sealing a deal to play the co-founder of Ready Player One's Virtual Reality platform, OASIS. After helping to launch the platform that would eventually go on to consume many people's lives, Ogden Morrow opted to take a step back from OASIS, a decision that was caused in no small part by witnessing co-founder James Halliday's sanity slowly shredded away by the system. If you've read the book, you'll know that Halliday and Morrow's relationship is a parody of Apples Wozniak and Jobs, and you'll probably agree that Pegg is perfect to play one half of the double act.

In this age of geekiness, Pegg has become something of an icon by playing a major role in the new era of Star Trek movies, creating cult hits like Shaun of the Dead, and even scoring a cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With this in mind, for a self-professed geek such as Pegg not to have a role in what will likely be the geekiest movie in years, would have been nothing short of scandalous.
