Batman v Superman Almost Featured These Two DC Comics Villains
With Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor (jr), Doomsday, and more all set to appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the movie is going to have a lot to offer DC Comics fans. But in a new interview, director Zack Snyder reveals that there two more major DC Comics characters that were, at one point, being slated to make an appearance in the movie.

Opening quote
"The Joker and The Riddler both came close to being in this movie," Snyder told Collider. "We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie and that's cool, but I didn't want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict.
Closing quote

Given the amount of brouhaha that surrounded Jared Leto's emergence as Joker in those Suicide Squad trailers, it was probably a good thing SNyder and Terrio opted to let him set this one out. The movie has already come under fire for focusing too heavily on Batman, and if you were to throw two major villains like Joker and Riddler into the mix, the movie would run a huge risk of becoming over-stuffed, even with the added 30 mins of the R-rated cut.

Snyder's comment that Joker's presence is going to be felt in Batman v Superman is an interesting one, and we're certainly curious to see how that plays out. In this time of massive expansion for the DCEU, the introduction of classic villains is to be expected, but with Riddler's name already having been considered for Batman v Superman, it could be that Edward Nigma is first in line for an appearance. That being said, recent marketing materials for Batman v Superman have shown us that Warner Bros. is already mapping out the villains of the DCEU, with the likes of Penguin, Poison Ivy, and Two Face all being mentioned.

For now, though, it's time to focus on Doomsday and Luthor who will be seen ripping things up when Batman v Superman hits theaters later this week.
