Zack Snyder Reveals Why Grant Gustin Isn't The Flash in the Movies
When it was first announced that the star of CW's acclaimed series The Flash, Grant Gustin, would not be playing the speedy hero in the new DC Universe movies, a lot of fans were upset, as his portrayal has been met with praise. Ezra Miller was cast in the role instead, and will debut as the character in Batman v Superman later this week, but many are still wondering why it won't be Gustin. Well, now Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder has shared the reasoning behind the casting decision... and fans of the show probably won't like what he said. The director told the New York Daily News on Monday:

Opening quote
"I just don't think it was a good fit ... I'm very strict with this universe and I just don't see a version where... that (tone is) not our world."

In other words, Snyder's main reason for snubbing Gustin is because the colorful, fun show doesn't mesh with his dark, brooding, neck-snapping brand of superhero movie. But there's another practical reason why Gustin wasn't cast, and it has to do with the DC multiverse. It's already been established that The Flash and Supergirl take place in different universes, and therefore so does Batman v Superman, Justice League, and the rest of the DCU. So even if Snyder had wanted to cast Gustin, it wouldn't have made sense for him to do so because the universes of the two properties are so obviously different. Here's what he said:

Opening quote
"Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he's very good, we made a commitment to the multi-verse, so it's just not a thing that's possible."
Closing quote

So there you have it. Grant Gustin lives in a happy-go-lucky-universe that has no place in the more serious and somber DCU. So hopefully Miller can fill the character's very fast shoes... we'll find out on March 25.
