Will We See Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VIII?
Huge spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens follow!
Harrison Ford just went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray, and in an unusually joyful interview, remained suspiciously tight-lipped about the future of his character.
I can only imagine that anyone who cares would have seen the movie by now, but just in case, SPOILERS:
As we all know, Ford has been wanting his character to bite the bullet for decades, so he was ecstatic when Han was finally killed off in The Force Awakens
"I argued for this to happen for thirty years, and I finally wore them down," he says in the above video.
In the interview, Ford is not only unusually giddy, but weirdly cagey about whether his character will return to the franchise. Kimmel takes for granted that Han Solo won't appear in future Star Wars sequels, and Ford responds jokingly, "Who said that? Who made you the boss?" And when Kimmel presses him on it, he pointedly refuses to answer whether his character will appear in Episodes VIII or IX.
So what does this mean? Possibly nothing, since Ford might just be joking around, or trying to stoke excitement for future movies (not that they need it). And considering how happy Ford seems lately, I think it's safe to say that the character is really dead. But it could also mean that we'll see Han in a Force vision or a flashback. Maybe they'll give Ford a break from the franchise for Episode VIII, and then we'll get one more Han flashback to finish off in Episode IX.
